HEATH RESIDENCE

Heath Residence is a 1,700 square foot lower-level renovation designed to bring comfort, order, and personality to a space that previously felt unfinished and disconnected from the rest of the home. When the project began, the lower level had no air conditioning, bare concrete floors, moisture issues, mismatched trim, and very little sense of identity. With four children and extended family regularly staying for weeks or even months at a time, the Heaths wanted this level to feel just as intentional and livable as the floors above.

The renovation is anchored by a new mudroom, created by removing an existing second staircase. This space now serves as the organizational heart of the lower level, with custom lockers, shoe drawers, and dedicated storage for each family member, along with baskets for off-season items. Designed to absorb the mess of daily life, the mudroom sets the tone for the spaces that flow from it.

Two dedicated home offices support deep, focused work for each parent. One office is defined by custom white oak cabinetry, shelving, and a built-in desk, paired with a rich palette that creates a moody, grounded environment for concentration. A bar allows the room to transition easily from work to evening use. The second office, designed as a tucked-away pocket space, provides privacy and quiet for counseling sessions, offering a place to step away without fully disconnecting from the home.

A guest suite and bath were designed with extended stays in mind, offering visiting family a place to relax and reset. Existing furniture was incorporated into the guest bedroom for a familiar, welcoming feel, while the bathroom was designed as a calming retreat. The bonus room was intentionally kept light and airy, centered around a generously sized sectional and television for casual family time.

Following the arrival of their fourth child, the Heaths relocated their oldest son’s bedroom to this level to give him space of his own. Shae Studio worked closely with Owen to design his dream room, incorporating subtle nature motifs inspired by his love of animals and the outdoors.

Shae Studio collaborated closely with Lynnwood Builders throughout construction, working alongside Adam Martin and David Dalholt to see the project through to completion. All custom millwork was crafted by Sunnyside Millwork, whose attention to detail and craftsmanship ties the renovation together into a cohesive and welcoming home.
